The Expressos - Hey Girl/Baby Be Bad To Me - 1980, WEA, P/S
This band is to the Shivvers as Ja Rule is to Tupac. I feel comfortable calling them a poor man's Suzy Saxon & The Anglos. I remember 'Hey Girl' being funny cause it sounded like the chick was singing to another girl, making it a lesbian kind of song. I am not gonna relisten to make sure cause I would rather not listen to this record for a third time. The girl singer is looking like a real estate agent in a rubber jumpsuit on the cover. Pretty solid record.

The Bees
The Bees - Already In Love/Shoehead - 1979, Obey-My-Brain, P/S
I was all set to make fun of this one but it isn't bad so far. This is the Bees' 2nd or 3rd single, who cares. Their first has one good song, 'Mystery Date', a quality punk-popper severely marred by "blind date with a transvestite surprise" lyrics. I listened to the other single (the 2nd or 3rd) and have vague memories of a nightmarish reggae influence. 'Already In Love' applies the cranberry bog technique to a different variety of berry. 'Shoehead' is pretty good I guess, I am listening to it as I write this. Both sides make a strong case for the Bees being the foremost strutting faggots of West Milford, NJ circa 1979.

The Mess
The Mess - The Way That You Look/Dark Nights - 198?, Leander, no P/S
I bought this off of Steve Turner of Mudhoney ("selectroburner") on ebay for 10 dollars shipped. He described it as "fantastic mystery (to me) power pop", a very misleading description. Sucks a dog's dick. Both sides utilize the blues progression, the kiss of death for all music.
